Human Trafficking – Hiding in Plain Sight According to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholic Social Teaching proclaims the dignity of human persons and all human life. Modern day slavery-where men, women and children are bought and sold like merchandise- inherently rejects that principle, showing absolute contempt for human beings.
Women religious have played an integral role in combating human trafficking and protecting victims. In 2001, 800 women of the International Union of Superior Generals passed a resolution dedicating over a million members to work in solidarity with one another in their own religious communities in the countries where they are located to address insistently at every level the abuse and sexual exploitation of women and children.
