Where are you on the digital divide? Like it or not, the digital age is here. You have learned to use the computer and the internet or someone else is doing it for you. Without your “smart” phone, tablet or computer, you miss out on a range of information, educational, employment and communication avenues. Imagine what it must be like for those without financial resources, knowledge or the infrastructure to be part of the digital age. According to the St. Louis Digital Divide Report, published this year, there are 5 components to the Digital Divide: 1. coverage (infrastructure to provide high-speed broadband), 2. fast and reliable connection 3. service affordability 4. device affordability and 5. learning and mentoring resources.
For reflection: what do you think about your place on the digital divide? how can you see God’s presence in this very worldly issue? how can you live simply and make little impact on the environment in the digital age?
