"What should be done then, my brothers and sisters? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up" - 1 Corinthians 14:26
The church community celebrates the sacred liturgy, and each member is called to participate. Members of the congregation are called to support the priest through specific roles according to tradition and pastoral needs. As such, servers, readers, choir members, and others play a "genuine liturgical function" in weaving the signs and symbols of salvation and scripture into celebration for all (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1140 -1145 (usccb.org))
