Carolyn Hebenstreit draws on an audio divina prayer practice to discuss silent contemplation as an expression of love for God:
“Contemplation is taking a long loving look at the Real.”
Walter Burghardt
Distraction comes in so many forms these days – we all experience distraction – what we hear or see or touch or taste or smell and sometimes all at once distract us. And sometimes it is our mind racing, filled with thoughts, ideas and memories.
Yes – TV, digital phones, tablets, computers, social media, gaming and email (sometimes even USPS mail) all seem to be pounding for my attention. Can they be quieted?
CONTEMPLATIO (Contemplate)
Here we rest. We let our thoughts and conversation with God fall to silence, trusting we have been heard.
We enjoy just being present with God, instead of doing anything.
You are not expecting to hear anything back from God. You’ve experienced this in your human relationships… there is something sweet in being in the quiet company of someone you trust - words fall away and just being with one another is where your heart is content.
Silence. Because He first loved us.
