MMOC Contemplative Core Team member Paul Schulte discusses how practices of silence like Centering Prayer can help us to hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, and offers an opportunity to help us become attuned to that voice:
Jesus tells us that he is the Good Shepard and that his sheep hear his voice. The image of a Shepard walking ahead of the flock, the sheep trusting in his care, his voice calmly providing direction is a message that is even more powerful in our times. In this turbulent, violent world having Jesus talk us home provides us with peace and protection.
Contemplation is a way to listen for His call by resting in silence. You are invited to see if this practice of silently placing yourself in a loving God’s presence helps you hear his voice.
The Contemplative Core Team will be leading a group to an Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop hosted by Contemplative Outreach - St. Louis on Saturday, February 3 at 9 AM. This can provide a foundation or a refresher in the practice of sitting in silence to hear God’s voice.
