The Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed an update to a rule to cut methane and other pollutants from oil and gas operations across the country. This would be a huge step forward in addressing the major role these emissions play in accelerating climate change in a relatively low-cost and effective way to protect our irreplaceable waterways, thereby protecting the health and safety of communities across the nation. Many cities or regions experiencing poor water access or conditions are in predominantly Black or Hispanic communities (eg. Flint, Michigan).
Smaller wells account for just 6% of our oil and gas production but produce over 50% of wellsite emissions nationwide (source: Waterkeepers.org). By providing comments to the EPA ( www.EPA.gov) on this issue, we can help preserve water supplies for all of us now and in the future.
