The MMOC Peace and Justice Ministry received a grant from the Archdiocese to present our upcoming program, “The Cost of Violence: Stories Seldom Heard,” on September 28 and October 19. All are invited to attend; use the Signup Genius or contact Jeanne Schepers at 201-321-9585 for more information.
Presenters will speak before and after a provided lunch. September topics will include domestic violence and suicide (see previous bulletins on these topics and their presenters), while October topics will be human trafficking (discussed in the last two bulletins), presented by Dr. Shima Rostami of the Gateway Alliance Against Human Trafficking, and gun violence.
Archbishop Rozanski has established a Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention. The Task Force, which is chaired by Dr. Alexander Garza who led our community’s response to COVID, focuses on gun suicide, domestic abuse and other deaths by firearms; it also addresses steps we can take in our parishes to educate ourselves and others about the root causes of gun violence as well as the intersection of factors such as access to firearms, mental health, poverty, and systemic injustice.
Our program on the cost of violence is part of MMOC’s commitment to upholding the sanctity and dignity of all human life.
