The Church has been celebrating the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) since 1914. It is always an occasion to express concern for different vulnerable people on the move; to pray for them as they face many challenges; and to increase awareness about the opportunities that migration offers.
Mary Mother Peace and Justice Ministry has assembled a Poster Gallery in the Church Hall dedicated to our brothers and sisters who have been forced to leave their homelands. You will have the opportunity to view the gallery throughout September. Every year the WDMR is the last Sunday of September; in 2022 it will be celebrated on September 25. As the title for his annual message for the 108th World Day, the Holy Father has chosen “Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees”. We will reflect on excerpts of his message as “food for thought” during September.
Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees “Here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” (Heb 13:14) “Dear Brothers and Sisters!
The ultimate meaning of our “journey” in this world is the search for our true homeland, the Kingdom of God inaugurated by Jesus Christ, which will find its full realization when he comes in glory. His Kingdom has not yet been brought to fulfilment, though it is already present in those who have accepted the salvation he offers us. “God’s Kingdom is in us.”…
…In the light of what we have learned in the tribulations of recent times, we are called to renew our commitment to building a future that conforms ever more fully to God’s plan of a world in which everyone can live in peace and dignity.” -Pope Francis Reflection: What is your image of our true homeland where everyone can live in peace and dignity?
